In many ways it is like being an Asian American. There are many similarities as in you tend to have disproportionately many other South Asian friends(at least in New Jersey). I think we assimilate slightly less in some ways or in other words retain the Indian-ness because we attend tend to attend Indian community get-together s and not change our first name.
As I grew and became a second generationer, I find my South Asianess on an exponential decay. Probably by next year I am gonna call myself Steve.
